Although the Market Charter was formally granted in 1281, markets had been held on this site for many years prior. A notable feature of the Market Square is the drinking fountain, erected to commemorate Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee in 1887. The fountain was designed by Charles Rossiter, the art master at Uppingham School.\nFor over nine centuries, Uppingham’s market has been a central part of the town, originally offering a variety of goods, including fruit, vegetables, livestock, and crafts. Today, the modern market continues this rich tradition, featuring stalls that provide a diverse range of products, such as freshly baked bread and cakes, locally farmed meats, fish, cheeses, fresh produce, flowers, apparel and even services like bicycle repairs and information stands.
