Christmas in Uppingham

Uppingham has always been a special place to live or visit and this is never more evident than when the Festive Season arrives in our beautiful market town, with the annual Christmas Late Night Shopping Event. This year this wonderful family event takes place on Thursday 7th December between 5:30 and 9:00pm, centered around the Market Square & High Street East, starting with the countdown to the Christmas lights switch on, led by Rutland Radio along with a very special guest! There’s no better way to open this magical, festive night!

Many of our varied shops stay open late, providing a warm welcome and the chance to start your Christmas shopping, whilst the Market Square will be filled with a variety of food stalls and numerous other stalls selling all manner of gifts, along with children’s entertainment, to allow everyone plenty of opportunity to eat, drink and be merry!

The whole evening is packed with live entertainment; street performers entertaining the crowds, the ever popular Dalek and Cyberman, offering great photo opportunities, singers in the Market Square and in the many Hotels and Bars open to enhance the festive cheer. The local school children will also be performing carols round the Christmas Tree and the Rutland Morris Men will perform throughout the night on the High Street. Last but not least, of course, Father Christmas will be in his Grotto in the Parish Church, or take the chance to visit his actual Reindeer in Mercer’s Yard!

The Town Hall will also be hosting a festive Craft Fair with gift ideas to suit all pockets. The Church will also have many children’s activities, as well as even more Stalls. Whilst there, look out for the beautifully decorated Christmas Tree in the Church with decorations all made by local primary school children and the Scouts.
